ReconcilingWorks is proud to announce our newest Reconciling in Christ congregation, Messiah Lutheran Church in Marquette, Michigan.
“We intentionally seek to be accepting of all people, even as Christ Jesus welcomed all. We are a Reconciling in Christ congregation, in which gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual folk are treated with the same respect and acceptance as other persons,” Messiah Lutheran’s press release says. “We believe the Scriptures are the inspired Word of God, but we do not believe that faith is a frozen waterfall. Faith is a living, dynamic stream, and God is forever creating new things. As we read the ancient words of Scripture, we seek to hear the Word of God anew.”
Messiah’s welcome doesn’t stop at LGBT people. They also reach out in service to others in many ways. They host “Room at the Inn” along with other Christian communities. For many years, they have welcomed youth from the community into their building for homework and activity nights. Their buildings also house Marquette Adult Day Services, Lutheran Social Services, and Habitat for Humanity. Messiah also reaches out to the college community through Lutheran Campus Ministry.
