Faith-Based Strategic Storytelling for the Minnesota Marriage Moment – Nov. 7, 2011
Repeated statistics from other efforts to defeat anti-gay marriage constitutional amendments show that the most successful and compelling method for changes hearts and minds on this issue is to engage people we already know, at least as acquaintances, with our stories of why marriage for same-gender couples matters for us.
Strategic storytelling is one of the most powerful methods of faith-based community organizing. It is the lynchpin of our efforts to help the “movable middle” to understand how marriage matters to us as families and as faith communities.
Participants will learn to
• put faces on abstract concepts, making them personal
• begin new relationships
• communicate values through emotions
• teach, inspire, and motivate others to action
This event is designed for members of ALL faith communities.
Even if you’ve already been trained in storytelling, please consider participating. The November 7 will give you further opportunity to practice and will be focused specifically toward defeating the anti-LGBT marriage amendment.
